The Rottweiler Club of Alaska, Inc. (RCA)
was established in 1986
by a group of concerned Rottweiler owners who saw the
need to form a club to educate the public on this
increasingly popular breed. Our mission statement says
it all. We are “dedicated to the promotion of
purebred companion Rottweilers.” With the increased
popularity of the breed over the past years, this club
works diligently to promote Rottweilers of stable
temperaments and qualities that reflect the American
Kennel Club standard for the breed.
The Rottweiler is a
working breed whose origin most likely dates back to the
Ancient Roman Empire. Accompanying Roman troops on
their invasions of European countries to herd and guard
the domestic animals, they arrived in Germany in a town
called Rottweil. The dog came to be called the
Rottweiler Metzgerhund (butcher dog), driving cattle to
and from market, protecting the butcher's money and
pulling carts. Today the Rottweiler is involved in and
successful at many activities from herding, carting,
agility, obedience, tracking, protection work and the
conformation ring.
Ownership of a
Rottweiler comes with heavy responsibilities. As a
working breed, they are known for their intelligence,
stamina and powerful strength. Daily exercise is a
must, along with early and continued socialization and
training. Whether you want a Rottweiler for show, work,
or as a family pet, we hope you will learn to respect
these wonderful dogs and encourage you to work with us
to protect the integrity of the breed.
